No problem. I wouldn't swear to you that this is an issue that you and I totally agree on, but I do know that most people only know a little of the relavent history. I don't think I know enough of it to have an informed opinion, and I've done a lot of reading.
Nah, nah, dude. You are supposed to start a conversation.... Like "history matters more than recent events" so I can say "the redress of ancient grievances done to others does more harm than good". And then we can talk about it.
By the way, your Great-Grandfather punched my Great-Grandfather in 1922. I'm coming for you... :-)
Sort of but I'm pretty sure that the only really constant part of Egypt was right along the Nile so something as far flung as the Gaza Strip would have had to been fairly recent.
??-1917: Ottoman Empire 1917-22: Occupied by the British 1922-48: British Mandate 1948-9: originally slated as a chunk of the Arab successor state which never existed; left to Egypt at the end of the first Arab-Israeli war
Where 'left to Egypt' means conquered and occupied by Egypt. Just as the West bank was conquered and occupied by Jordan before the Israelis conquered and occupied it in 1967.
And there's also no such thing as a Palestinian nationality, but no one wants to give that any creedence either. They just want to champion a plight *wry snicker*.
Can't blame Jordan for not wanting the headache of having to deal with these people. They would then become responsible for stopping violence against Israel as it would be being done by "their" citizens.
You know, I didn't know that, and the reason I didn't know that prompts me to remember to make note of an obvious but important lesson I learned at my friend's parents' house this weekend.
