Unlike a good chunk of the region, Egypt's been Egypt in one form or another for ages.

Yes, but IIRC, that particular bit became part of Egypt rather more recently than most of the country.

Sort of but I'm pretty sure that the only really constant part of Egypt was right along the Nile so something as far flung as the Gaza Strip would have had to been fairly recent.
