On Facebook...

I've had a facebook account since August, and I think I've figured out how I feel about it.

In a word, "meh."

It's nice to be able to reconnect with people that I've lost touch with, but there's very little depth to it unless I really work at it. There are a few people that I'm regularly e-mailing with, but for everyone else that I'm facebook friends with it's a very vague, shallow, sort of "oh, there you are" kind of thing.

I'm not about to cancel my facebook account or anything (and feel free to add me if you'd like), but I really prefer blogging.

All that said and done with, what's the deal with Twittr?

I like the event and chat aspect of facebook. And finding people from high school.

I don't really get face book. I gather that you have to be on during the day to use twitter... It's kind of a short hand place to put a thought or two. I am under the impression that plurk is very similar. I am not allowed to use those kinds of services at work, so I don't bother. YMMV of course.

I find facebook mostly a useful way to reach people whose numbers or emails I've lost, and a nice way to see other people's photos. Other than that, it's just a way to waste time, not that I don't do so with it on occasion. But as a reference tool, it's kind of handy.

Yep, I use it to see pics, events, and find numbers & emails.

However, if you subscribe to the RSS feed for status updates, it's basically twitter without the replies & such.

It lets you keep up with the small details of peoples lives, which can be interesting. Especially people that don't blog, etc.

On the other hand, LJ has it's uses for private info, and blogging. I like LJ. I like the flist. It works for me.

You can also import automatically any LJ post into facebook, if you so desire, automatically. It can pull the rss feed of your LJ posts in :)

twitter is a way to spam the world with what you think are perfectly pithy 160 char epigrams. *g*

I thought it was 140?

I got a Facebook account while it was still for college students. I tried to delete my account when I began receiving huge volumes of spam. The Facebook staff told me that they won't delete my account, they will simply archive it "in case I want to come back." Since I tried to delete my account the spam in my mail box has doubled. My Facebook account is the only account I've ever had with my real name and the spam I'm getting is address to that name. I will never use my real name on an account again.

I don't use my real name. :)

I like Facebook because I can play something resembling Scrabble and have found some friends I lost along the way. That's pretty much it.

FWIW, I don't use MySpace at all, though I do have an account. I find it tacky and full of Flash. Just because there's editor to let everyone web design doesn't mean everyone should. Yikes.

I like Twitter b/c it updates to my phone for those folks I like hearing snippets from. And it's a way to drop tiny thoughts without actually writing an LJ entry every time. And folks can opt out from reading them.

YMMV, of course.

Myspace is rather Meh for me, too.

With Twitter, I think that it lets you use a txt msg to update on what you're doing at any hour of the day. For those momentary flash thoughts. LJ has the TXTLJ feature tho. I used it a lot when I was ABEND.
