Have finally appropriated my parents' old imac. Unfortunately, I haven't really engaged in any hardcore Mac use since OS 7 or so, so I'm a wee bit lost.
If at all possible, you want to update that OS; 10.2 at least. It should be easy enough to scrounge up. The early (10.0) versions were seriously slow, and weird in some odd ways. 10.3 or even 10.4 would be good, but 10.2's where things got stable.
