Not really. That's the whole *point* of the ACLU. It's about *liberty*, not liberalism. Remember that they represented the right of the Nazi party to march in Skokie. That's their purpose, to represent those whose liberties are being infringed upon... Republican, Democrat or other.
With all due respect, Teresa, they're more consistently and selectively about liberalism than liberty. The ACLU has generally been very good on our 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th amendment rights. Protecting Mr. Limbaugh's medical records falls in there. However, the ACLU is rather poor on 2nd, 9th and 10th amendment rights.
Were they consistent in supporting the entire Bill of Rights, I (a pretty radical libertarian) would join and support them.
Okay, I should have said in theory, not in practice. I guess in practice they sometimes surprise me with the more 'conservative' causes, but I maintain that they *should* be about liberty. Hey, I've had a houseful of LJ and #C folk this weekend, if I'm not thinking or typing clearly, blame them. :-)

That's such a cute picture (Gabriel, I assume?) in the icon!
