Mostly.

Went to Passim tonight to listen to James O'Brien.

The first thing I see when I walk through the door was (drumroll)

Natalie Freakin' Portman.

No joke, knock me over with a feather.

She was there having dinner witha friend, and left shortly after I arrived.

Crystal was supposed to be joining me tonight, but she was in a small accident, involving her car and a ditch. Thank God she's okay.

I struck up a conversation with a woman at the table next to mine, whom I saw reading a copy of Stranger in a Strange Land. We talked about sci-fi for a bit, and I found out she was dating the lead act's younger brother, which was pretty cool.

The concert itself was awesome, and I had a great time once I found out Crys was alright.

At the end of the set, James started talking about how Club Passim used to be called Club 47, and eas located a few blocks away, and nobody had played music there in decades, since it was turned into a minimart. He then unplugged his guitar, and started walking out, playing. Everyone followed him out to the old site, which was a good ten minute walk. People were talking with each other, laughing and making introductions. It was great. Very reminiscent of Andy Kaufman's "I'd like to take my audeince out for milk and cookies" thing.

After a song at the minimart, people were still hanging out. I introduced myself to James, and offered Crys' regrets. He'd gotten a message from her and said something along the lines of "You're Ari, aren't you?" which produced a very fanboyish gush out of me, but anyway...

I had a great time.

I just don’t get it.

Crystal invited me to join her at an Anne Heaton concert tonight at ten. I begged off, because I need to wake up at 5:30 every morning, and haven’t been sleeping well all week. I even drifted off at work yesterday and today.

I’m a little upset that I’m missing Anne Heaton, who I positively adore, but I’m more upset that I chose not to hang out with Crystal. She means a lot to me. Previous relationship or not, whether we end up back together at some future time or not, I still want to be a part of her life, and want her to be part of mine. I even found myself asking if I’d have turned her down if we were still dating. I do not need my brain doing this to me, filling me with all sorts of self-doubt and recriminations now that I’ve finally started to kick this whole “turn everything into a psychodrama” shtick that I’ve been doing for the past year or so. I could’ve asked if she wanted to grab dinner earlier in the evening, or if she wanted to hang out or something before heading off to the concert.

Hell, I’ll be hanging out with her on Monday when we go to Aikido (which I’m sure is just an excuse for her to throw me across the room, really….) So, I shouldn’t complain. It’s just, we’ve finally started to break through some of the awkwardness, and we had a conversation a few days ago that really broke through a lot of walls, and here I am freaking out. We’ll be okay, I know, but… feh.

I just don’t get it.

So, one of the many books I've read since starting my new job has been Star Trek:SCE a bound version of several ST e-books.

The bound version of the books comes with a compendium that includes characters, and their relatives, and I found this entry:

Rabbi Rachel Gilman- Professor at Stern College, married to Captain David Gold (one of the lead characters)

This suggests a few things to me...

1. Sometime in the future, Orthodoxy will accept female Rabbis. Which, to be honest, doesn't strike me as all that bad an idea. I know quite a few women who know just as much as quite a few Rabbis I've met, and while they're highly respected in their fields as educators or community leaders, they don't neccessarily have that extra bit of respect that Rabbis get...

2. Even though there are female Orthodox Rabbis, Yeshiva University still sees fit to have seperate-sex undergraduate education.

That's just so YU... :-)

3. Orthodox Jews can serve on starships, now that's just plain cool. :-)

translation: This too is for the best...

My relief never showed up, so I was stuck at work until nine. I would've missed the concert, anyway.

Boy, I'm tired.

Crys, if you read this, I'm sorry I spazzed out this afternoon.

Two people who've responded to the latest meme have used the word "intense" to describe me.

Am I really that intense?

and is that good or bad?

'nite all. *hugs*
