Getting of the bus across the street from [livejournal.com profile] chaiya's place, when one of the people waiting at the bus stop keels over. Doesn't crumple, doesn't lean agafence and sink to the floor, topples like a felled tree.

The fact that his head's shaved means he had absolutely no skull protection, and gets a lovely cut on the back of his head, which was making for a lovely puddle of the red stuff. Turns out he was on his way to the ER for some severe backpain. His girlfriend had given him a vicodin for the pain, I'm assuming that's what did it...

While several people reached for their celphones, I assesed the guy (having First Aid and CPR certification and such,) tried to treat him for shock, and spoke to him while he came to, and a firefighter/EMT happened along with one of the Big Orange Bags of Stuff.

The rest of the day was blessedly calmer, and I had my last Tai Chi class until my schedule works out.

You were there and did your best. Only one of those things was happenstance.

Good on you.:)

Question (I just got my First Aid and Adult CPR cards from the Red Cross)... did you do anything about the cut itself?

Sounds like your training came in handy... I'm sure I'd have frozen (before the classes) and am not sure I wouldn't now.

Well, the cut was on the back of his head, which I didn't want him moving, so I didn't do anything. If it was bleeding heavily, I probably would've just applied pressure, as I lack such things as gauze and ace bandages in my knapsack. I should start carrying my first-aid kit around, though, no?
