Client's abusive boyfriend, who's been banned from our program, calls to speak to client, who's sleeping. When informed she's sleeping he goes off like a handful of gelignite, ranting and raving at me. This of course, does not help him in any way, then he lets out with the following gem:

(This being said after several threats towards her, me, and my boss, I'm going to take it with a grain of salt, mind you.)

"I love her to death, and you can't stop me from seeing her."

Now, my inside voice wants to say,

"No, you don't love her to death, you nearly beat her to death, there's a difference, shithead."

Of course, it came out sounding like.

"I'm sorry, M, but you know you're not allowed to come to the residence anymore, if this is a problem, speak to my PD."

Why oh why can't I get some of my co-workers together and clobber this guy? It's the only thing he'll understand, sad to say.

Probably because I'm almost totally incapable of violence. *sigh*

Good for you, for being a person who stands up to abusers and tells them "no", and who doesn't think that kind of behavior has any excuses. I know it was yuor job, but you do your job well. :)

*big hug*

My ex started became abusive. I stayed for two years of emotional abuse, and a year of 'oh, that was an accident' hitting of me, until one day he hit me very hard, from behind, in the lower back.

An hour later, he came up to the bedroom, and in a nasty, bully-child tone of voice, said, "I'm sorry I smacked your heiney."

That was what finally made me realize not only did he not love me, he probably never really had, at least, not the same way I defined the term.

No. He didn't understand. Neither will this fellow you dealt with. I'm just glad the literal 'target of his affections' (if you can stomach calling it that) is under your protection. She was smart enough to get out. Let's hope she stays out.

My answer?

"No, I can't stop you. But a couple of New York's finest, with OC, truncheons, and an active disregard for slimeballs who beat up on women will be thrilled to escort you off the property. Promise me you'll resist? Becsuse it's always fun to see big he-men like you beg for mercy when the tables are turned. Have a nice day."

sweetie, if you had used your Inside voice, the asshat would probably have mentally relabeled you an Active Enemy, rather than just In My Way and might possibly go after you. it's never safe to safe to argue with people like that. You're doing well, i'm proud of you.

Sad to say that most DV Batterers see -nothing- wrong with their actions and a beating will only vindicate their conviction that -they- are the victim. Such complicated dynamics.
