It all draws to a close...

In a few hours, I'll be moving...

I know that moving in with my folks is my only option right now, and saves me a lot of hassle, but I'll be giving up a lot of the independence I've had living here in NYC.
Keeping my own hours? Gone.
Not having to deal with my family other than on my own terms? Gone.
It bothers me, and while I know it's temporary, I'm not sure exactly how temporary it's gonna be.

So far, provided I find a job fairly quickly, I'll be moving into an apartment with my friend Jimmy in a decent amount of time, but finding a job right now feels like a big if.

It'll be good, I'm sure.

You're an adult now. You've passed another test, finishing school, and you have rights. You can keep your own hours, to some extent, as long as you let people know that you'll be fine no matter when you get in. You just have to retrain your parents.

You should *always* deal with your family on your own terms. No one can make you deal with anything before you're ready unless you're letting them push you around. Don't let them.

As for a job, we've talked about this. I'm tired of repeating it. It's fairly simple to get *a* job. Whether it'll be one that you want to keep is a different discussion, but if all you're looking for is a paycheck, then you can substitute teach, you can work at a grocery store, you can drive a truck for UPS ... It doesn't matter, Ari. You don't have to start a "career" right this second. What seems to be most important to you is getting money together and having it regularly so that you can afford to move in with Jimmy. If that's true, then you can do that. Don't get all defeatist about something that's perfectly within your grasp.

After getting a job, whatever you end up doing, if you do want to start a career, you can keep looking. That's also not too difficult. You can check with college newspapers about lab assistant work, if that's what you want, and then apply to grad school with some experience on your resume. Or you can get a job at Walker or the like and start out in your field. Or you can decide to make bracelets and sell them on the internet. Whatever floats your boat. I'm a big believer in the possible, right now. After all, who'da thunk we'd make it to see a year anniversary?

*grin* Chin up. It's good for you, and attitude going in is at least half the battle.

It's not so much me staying out late that's a concern so much as staying up late at home, with my light-sleeping family. If I so much as type too loudly, I wake someone up. I'll deal, it's no biggie...

Yes, but when I was in New York, and my family was annoying me, I could just hang up the phone, close the e-mail, and vent to my friends. Here, I don't really have any me-space that I can go to easily. No door to shut with a "Do not disturb" sign on it.

I'm not worried about a job, just annoyed at the prospect of searching.

After all, who'da thunk we'd make it to see a year anniversary?

Oh, I know. The whole world's against us, m'dear. :-)
