Just cued up the premeire of Stargate: Universe.
Thus far (a minute in), the aesthetic is very different. Let's see how it goes.

meh. Way too short scenes and too many commercials. Also felt too much like the early time travel episode of SG:A.

Thus far, I'm underimpressed. The visual/music/directorial style reminds me (unpleasantly) of BSG, I find myself hard-pressed to care about any of the characters, and they have jumped into the previous century in regards to the kick-ass women contingent. I will give it 2 more episodes (Air pt. 3 plus one), and I have no idea if I'm going to keep it up.
