More culture than a tub of yogurt

Today, Aliza and I joined a bunch of our friends for an afternoon at Tanglewood, to listen to Beethoven's ninth symphony.

It's the first time I've heard the entiore performance in one go, and was absolutely wonderful. There's something to be said for hearing the Ode to Joy sung outdoors to a full orchestra.

Hm...and here the only lyrics I ever heard were "Movies, Movies, Movies, I wanna see Starz" (ie an ad for the Starz channels on comcast :)

Didn't you ever listen to the whole thing in 11th grade? In Mr. Youman's class? I sort of thought we did, but I could be remembering wrong. I think I listened to the whole thing for a music appreciation class in college. It is, indeed, lovely. Never heard it sung outdoors, with a full orchestra, in Tanglewood, though!

I know we listened to Ode to Joy in his class. I don't know if we listened to the whole symphony, though.
