Anyone who complains about the security screenings wrought upon them by the TSA has never gone through security at Ben Gurion.

-Our bags were X-rayed
-We were politely but firmly interviewed ("Do you have family here? Who are they?" "Do you belong to a synagogue back home?" "How often do you come to Israel?")
-We then went through the usual metal detector.

At no point was I asked to remove my belt or shoes, and nobody asked me about any liquids, gels, plasmas or forms of dark matter that I might have secreted about my person or luggage.

I approve.

Furthermore, their wifi is free.

Next stop, Heathrow!

The key thing is that they were polite - which TSA is not always.

I was examined pretty thoroughly too, and they went through one of my bags after the X-ray. I commented on this to someone else on the tour (an experienced traveller to Israel) who said "you're travelling alone and your last name doesn't sound Jewish". I pointed out that I was travelling with a 22-person tour from one synagogue, and he said yeah, if not for that it would have been much worse. Okay...
