Does anyone else remember that episode of Assignment: Earth, when Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln met those astronauts from the future?
That was a fun concept, whaever happened to those guys?

If I recall correctly, I think they were using that episode of Assignment: Earth as a backdoor pilot, to try to create a show about those astronauts set in the future. But the network didn't seem to go for it.

My guess, though, is that the producers of that 1980s show Galaxy Quest remembered it fondly. Sometimes when I watch that show, I remember that episode of A:E.

I know. :-) I thought it'd be fun to reverse the concept.

Maybe two universes over, Assignment:Earth was a cool sci-fi/spy show in the sixties, and they tried to back-door pilot Star Trek, to no avail.

As much as I approved of the A:E movie relaunch last month, I kind of question the duo of Matt Damon/Angelina Jolie as Gary and Roberta...

and, of course, I'm disoriented enough that I completely missed your point. Fooey. :-)

a more accurate response would be...

How cool would that have been? Aside from Lost in Space and The Time Tunnel, SF on TV was pretty meager.

By the way, I really liked that review of the new Assignment: Earth movie that you wrote for SpyFi Wire.

You liked that one? I always thought it was kind of meh. Maybe I need to go back and re-watch it - I do remember liking the guy with the ears.

I still haven't picked up the A:E Season 3 box set, which is pretty lame considering I've got all the others and pretty much every one of the books. I've even got one of those old "Sound and light" Servo toys from Playmates :-) Yes, I'm that sad.

What did you think of the movie, BTW? I thought Bruce Greenwood just nailed the role of Gary Seven, but I wasn't as impressed by Zoe SaldaƱa as Roberta. I know they had to modernise it, but I still think they could have done it in a way that didn't retcon everything that had gone before.

Talking of fun concepts, do you remember that utterly barking episode of U.N.I.T., when they met the Cybermen and got helped out by that alien time traveller? Quite mental, but I reckon they could have made a series out of that. His time ship was brilliant.

Really? I always thought he was too aloof.

I've gotta say. I liked the movie. I didn't see Zoe Saldana playing Roberta as too much of a retcon. They made it clear that Gary Seven's goatee-sporting evil counterpart from that parallel universe, Gary Eight, travelled back in time and mucked with things. Maybe one of Roberta's parents was different as a result?

I do remember that episode of UNIT! It was brilliant.

I've heard rumors that RTD is bringing that alien time traveller back for a few episodes of the new UNIT. Since he's taken over, he's really liked bringing back some of the more obscure older characters.

The thing is, they keep mentioning two different actors as playing the time traveller guy. How on earth is that going to work?
