[livejournal.com profile] reporteraliza and I have come up with an invention that we think someone should make as soon as it's plausible.

In short, a robotic pregnancy surrogate that can carry a fetus to term in lieu of natural pregnancy.

I think we should call it The Woomba, assuming we can get irobot on board.

There are several practical concerns that we need to iron out first. I may decide to detail them when I have more time. :-)

No, the term "Woomba" is already reserved for the uterine extractor -- a robot which, at the first onset of a period, goes ahead and sucks out all the gunk that's gonna be coming out anyway, allowing the whole process to be over in seconds instead of days.

The Woomba was used in a skit on SNL (check YouTube), but the idea is fairly sound. Much better than that L&O where the woman had gotten a surrogate so the pregnancy wouldn't ruin her figure.
