If you were to design a building where everyone was required to take their shoes off, you'd probably set up some benches or something where folks could take their shoes off, and then put them back on again when they were done.

Not in any airport I've seen yet, domestic or otherwise.

Probably because the airports were designed before the whole take off the shoes things. And they just haven't thought of it because they are dumb.

I've also heard the comment that a well-designed security station would have a floor-conveyer belt (or some kind of ramp) rather than forcing everyone to pick up often-heavy suitcases for the machine's convenience.

GPT also has handy chairs just after security. They are still in the process of remodeling after Katrina so this is new.

RIC is also newly remodeled.
