aribMy desktop abruptly made a clunking noise and shut down.
I pulled the plug, disconnected the desktop from the monitor and peripherals, and brought it into the living room. I opened the panel, plugged it back in and switched it on.
My (relatively new and moderately fancypants) graphics card actually started smoking. Yikes.
I *really* hope it didn't fry the rest of the machine...
Good thing I just got a laptop, no?
Update: Swapped in an old graphics card. It works now. the swapped out card smells like all sorts of toxic materials. Frankly, I'm surprised. Nvidia's never given me this much trouble before.
