I just bought two compact fluorescent lightbulbs on sale at the Shaws near work. (They were on sale for 99 cents and last for seven years, how could I not.)

I realize they're wonderful for the environment and that if every american had one on their homes, we'd be able to decomission some small number of nuclear power plants, but I don't really like the quality of the light they put out. At least, not as the main light fixture in my room. As a reading light, not bad.

Cheap CFLs are terrible. We got some at Target that are quite good, though. (I don't remember the brand, I'm afraid. Uh... bright green box. I think.) Of the two photos I just posted, one was taken in May and the other just recently, after we switched to CFLs, and you can only just barely tell the difference. You want the ones that make a point of emulating incandescents.

They're Sylvania, so you'd think they'd be good. Again, as a reading lamp it's not bad, but I don't think I want one as a primary light in my bedroom.
