I just bought two compact fluorescent lightbulbs on sale at the Shaws near work. (They were on sale for 99 cents and last for seven years, how could I not.)

I realize they're wonderful for the environment and that if every american had one on their homes, we'd be able to decomission some small number of nuclear power plants, but I don't really like the quality of the light they put out. At least, not as the main light fixture in my room. As a reading light, not bad.

I use compact florescents for things like lighting staircases and stuff like that. I've also found that some types of compact florescents warm up to a better quality of light after a few minutes.

And I've got some incandescents in other places in the house.
