Safe and sound in Toronto, after way too much driving. (see previous phonepost)

But first, a pre-travel encounter.

The scene: [livejournal.com profile] reporteraliza and I are sitting in Rubin's (the local Kosher deli in Brookline, MA) waiting for dinner before hitting the road. Seated behind us are three elderly women in the middle of their own meal. The following conversation ensued:

Little old lady #1: We're talking about a menage a trois. There were two ladies and a man, and the ladies were having relations, and the men were having relations....

Little old lady #2: Oy vey.

Thankfully, I was able to keep myself from cracking up, but it was a close thing.

Thus far, Toronto seems more or less like the US, but with the metric system and Tim Horton's instead of Dunkin' Donuts. Even the morning drivetime newsradio sounds the same, down to the announcers and the bumpers they use before different news segments. The woman at the border was gruff, and asked a pile of questions, but nothing too prying.

and now, lunch.

Toronto? How coincidental...[livejournal.com profile] hr_macgirl and I were there this weekend, also. We didn't drive up, though.
