First, read this.

Then consider two things:

First, bask in the headline, "Russia launches Israeli spy satellite" and realize just how nutty that sounds to someone who has a few friends who came to the US and/or Israel as refugees from the Soviet Union. (In Soviet Russia, refugees leave you?)

Then ask yourself how useful a spy satellite is if you tell everyone about it!

Come on, man! At least tell us (decades later in a tell-all autobiography) that there's some fancy-shmancy anti-missle laser in it or something. :-)

I once left a sternly worded, just short of really rude, note on someone's windshield. (They lacked an AB sticker -- had stickers for a suburban town all over the car -- and had taken up two potential spaces in front of my house, right under the "resident parking only" sign, and I had come home with two sleepy kids and a trunkload of groceries, so I was a bit irritated.)

About fifteen minutes later, a male voice started hooting and whistling in the street outside my house, yelling "hey you! hey you! I know where you live and I'm watching you! I'm gonna come get you! I'm watching you!"

Seriously. I was sufficiently creeped out as to check the deadbolts, call Seth to warn him that some nutcase might be out on the street so watch himself when he came home, and wonder if I should call the police. Looked both ways the next time I stuck my head out the door, several hours later. I considered calling the police, but ... about what?

His merely watching me, without telling me so, would have been considerably less effective in making an impression on me.

Letting the Iranians know that there's an eye watching them and providing targeting information to the Israeli air force may (ha ha) encourage them to come honestly to the table. And personally, I wouldn't tell them about the Orbital Mind Control Lasers that were launched with the spy satellite either.
