Saturday night, Mars will be closer to the Earth than it's been in a while:

I remember the last time it swung by, and [livejournal.com profile] bluepapercup and I stood on line at the science museum forever just for a quick peek at it through a telescope. The pomp and circumstance was more fun than the actual viewing, if memory serves. :-)

Thank you for reminding me of that evening :) I had a wonderful time, and yes, standing in line was a great time, with a very short viewing of Mars at the end. I rememeber watching the fog and clouds blow in and out all evening, and seeing the lights on the Zakin Bridge blink in and out.

I remmeber people watching the cloud cover, cheering whenever Mars peeked out, and making disappointed "awwww!" noises when it was hidden. :-)

The fog was nice, even as it ruined the view.

We saw it naked-eye at MIT the other night.
