Our big concern was that it's HUGE! We got to see quite a few of our con-going friends (and met a couple of new ones), but the crowds and lines can be daunting.
Oh, DragonCon is entirely too much of a good thing. the year I went, it was Everybody and his Dog, his Brother, his Mother, and his Hookers.
Enormous crush of people. Simply ages to wait for the elevator to go up to your hotel room. And if you wanted to go down, it was worth it to walk down 15 flights of stairs rather than wait for it.
If you're susceptible to panic attacks, DragonCon would trigger it.
And I had a simply fantastic time. It was 2000 and Star Wars themes were *EVERYWHERE*. I saw Sand People mugging for the camera. I saw about 5 Queen Amidalas, one of whom was male, and another of whom slowly glided about on roller skates. I saw many Imperial Stormtroopers, and Emperor Palpatine with red Imperial Guards. I saw many many Jedi.
I made an ass of myself before the Atlanta Subgenii to the extent that they handed me a tee-shirt that they were charging other people for and proclaimed that I had too much Slack. I got to talk to Mike Teevee and Veruca Salt who were promoting the release of the original "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory" on DVD and they complimented me on the same shirt.
I dressed up as Dana Scully with pinstriped business suit and FBI badge and was adopted by a bunch of fen who thought I was cat's pajamas.
I had an absolute blast. DragonCon is an experience that every fan should have once in his or her life.
