So, The Daily Show is running a weekly series entitled "Evolution Schmevolution," in which they're weighing in on the evolution/intelligent design balagan that's going on. (translation: balagan=brouhaha).

They just had a panel debate. On the panel was an evolutionary biologist, an ID supporter (who was fairly moderate, as far as ID folks go), and a whacko spiritualist medium woman.

WSM came out with the following line: "It's all a theory. Thousands of years ago, you thought that Zeus was your god or that Rao was your god..."

Sure, lady. Thousands of years ago people worshipped the fictional Kryptonian sun god...

I used to work at Sears with a guy from Orange County, California. His name was Milan Rao. He was pimptastic. I'd say he was godlike. If he invented evolution and creationists to test us and our scientific spirit, that wouldn't shock me.

Is "brouhaha" really the best translation of "balagan"?

Maybe not, but it was the best approximation I could come up with at the time.

I recently suggested kalel as a hebrew name for a child. Person didn't get the reference, but didn't like the name, fortunately. I once suggested Emmet as a name for the offspring of Mr. and Mrs. Brown and they actually liked it. I had to explain who Emmet Brown was.

Of course, in Hebrew, Kal can mean Easy, and El can mean Strength, making Superman the equivalent of an Easy Strength Oven Cleaner.

In Kryptonian, of course, everyone knows that Kal-El means Son of the Star.
