Voted today...

In Brookline town elections for selectman, school board and town committee members.

Almost none of the positions were opposed, they were almost totally incumbents.

Democracy at work...

yeah, but participation in the process is a Good Thing. at the very least, you'll help the voter turnout statistics, which in theory reminds the pols that their constituency cares about what they do, and are willing to voice their opinions.

I am reminded of a primary several years ago. I walked in and the person at the table said "Democrat". (A statement, not a question; this area is overwhelmingly Democrat.) No, I said. Oh, Republican. No, Libertarian. Blank stare.

"What the heck are you doing here, then?" (We didn't have any races on the primary ballot.)

"I'm here for the referenda." (In PA, things like tax changes and bond issues and the like sometimes go onto the ballot, and sometimes it's a primary ballot rather than the main fall one.)

"You came down here just for those?"

"Yes. Those are probably the most important things on today's ballot. Do I really care who the Register of Wills is?" (It was an off year. No congresscritters, etc.)

I got puzzled looks, but he did eventually let me vote.
