It might've been a date.

Then again, maybe not. It all comes from my only being able to interpret a few kinds of body language.

When in doubt, ask. I swear, it's better to know. Take it from me. I have a friend who is totally, utterly oblivious. He was hanging out one-on-one with a girl all summer - romantic dinner and everything - and when the summer ended, he still thought they were just friends, and she was heartbroken.

Take it from me. You might want to figure out the difference.

And wow, I did not mean that to be a tirade. :shuts up:

See, this is where things get vague, just about the whole situation.

She's new to the community. She's just been in town since Friday looking for a place to live and a job. She found a place today, and had several job interviews. We met over Shabbos because my shul's hospitality squad matched her up with my family for lunch.

Heck, I even attended a singles event at my shul on Sunday since she said she was going to be there. That's when I asked her if she'd be interested in dinner tonight. She was, I set things up, we hung out.

It was great. She's into theater, and has a sense of humor that can appreciate mine, I know one of her closest friends from when I was in high school, and we seem pretty compatible hashkafically. Also, she wants to hang out again once she moves into town permanently in about a month.

She's also gorgeous which, while not at all necessary, is nice.

Here's the rub. She's a non-significant amount of years older than me (more than five, less than ten, other than that I'm not sure), and is in a very different part of her life/career. So I'm not sure if she sees me as someone who's dateable, or as "that nice kid who showed me around the new neighborhood."

Believe me, I'm all for being up front and asking when the water's murky, but not after the first date/meeting.

Gee, this wasn't supposed to be a tirade, either.

That sounds sort of datey.

That sounds friendly, at the very least. Ask again when she comes back, maybe, something more really datey?

Sounds like me and [livejournal.com profile] deyo. I'm seven years older. But then, I only wanted to have sex with him, not date him. Would it be different if your ages were reversed?

The age difference doesn't matter to me, I'm not sure what her take is.

I'm gonna have to call a cultural differences mulligan, I don't usually look at someone on first meeting and decide that I want to sleep with them. *grin*

I'd known [livejournal.com profile] deyo online for a year and offline for six months when we decided to jump each other. :) We just hadn't dated. :)

"Hi, it's Ari. Would you be interested in {activity)? Great! By the way, would this count as our second date, or am I just showing you around town?"
