What OS are you using?

WinXP.

Originally I thought it was a problem with my Bluetooth adapter, but uninstalling it didn't fix the problem.

On my XP system, some of my devices have to be shut down before they can be removed. What kind of devices are you unpluging?

I've gotten occasional freezes when unplugging a USB device (Win2k, and the answer is to turn it off first), but never when plugging them in. Does it seem to make a difference which end you're plugging in? That is, I keep a USB cable plugged into the machine all the time and then just plug the camera into the other end. If you're plugging the cable into the computer, I wonder if you could be bumping something else in the process?
