(no subject)

Friend asks me out of the blue:

"So Ari, how do you feel about your brother's engagement?"

To which I reply, quite honestly:

"I think it's great, I'm really happy for him."

"Oh, good. You're not jealous, I was pretty sure you would be."

Excuse me?

*fume*

Well, I'm pretty sure I would have felt jealous in your shoes, or possibly awkward or inadequate.

But that's different from assuming you'd feel jealous, and damn but that's an incredibly tacky way of phrasing it, too.

*raises eyebrow* Does this person *know* you?

Hrm? How bizarre, from someone who supposedly knows you.

It would never occur to me that you'd be jealous of him. Wonder where this person got the idea. Perhaps because they would be if they were in your shoes?

Perhaps your friend isn't so good at phrasing things, and what he/she meant to say was "I would be jealous in your shoes." Ner.
