Not everyone can. (I'm not talking about inconvenience or reluctance, I'm talking about physically not having the milk.) I have more than one friend who couldn't breastfeed, and one told me once about being approached by a woman on the street who yelled at her and called her a bad mother because she was bottle-feeding her son.
Oh, definatly. There are perfectly valid reasons for *not* breastfeeding, and women who make those choices really need to be respected more. Just like women who do breastfeed need to be treated better.
I can almost guarantee you that wasn't the case here. What this is evidence of is the pervasive additute that formula feeding is the modern Western way of feeding your baby. Its become *such* a problem, that WHO had to come up with rules for how formula could be promoted. You'll note that the first one gets violated right and left in the US, which pretty much thumbs its nose at anything WHO says related to maternity care.
