ack!

Really tired of spam.
Really, really tired of spam.
Remember when e-mail used to be used as a means of communication?

It still is a means of communication - just one with a lower signal/noise ratio than it used to have. :-)

i would like to direct you to this commentary on the subject.

spam is TEH SUKC, but these days we have some remarkably good tools to fight it.

Back in the early days, I used to go to spamcop, or use SamSpade to figure out the headers, then file abuse reports, etc.

Then the pile grew too large.

meh.

well, yes, that's the point. solutions like the ones you used to use do not scale to large volumes of spam. Bayesian filters do - in fact, the more spam they process, the more accurately they work. SpamAssassin is also not just a Bayesian - it's got a pretty sensible set of default rules, but over time it'll build a personalized database for you.

i'd suggest taking a little time to read over some of the stuff i mentioned - at the very least, it'll make you feel geekier :)
