TV commentary- The Unit
Mar. 20th, 2007 10:31 pmThe Unit is a fun romp of a show surrounding a Delta Force unit and their families. The A story in an episode usually focuses on a group of the soldiers, and the B story usually focuses on family members and soldiers stationed on the base.
Tonight's A story "took place" in Israel.
Pros:
-I was willing to overlook the fact that "Israel" looked surprisingly like southern California, since parts of Israel really do look like southern California. :-)
-Authentic bus maps, it made for a nice touch of authenticity
- Security guards at restaurants at stuff may seem like they were playing things up for TV, but lots of places do have that sort of thing. (More shopping malls than restaurants, but still.
Cons:
-While most of the folks who spoke Hebrew sounded like they were native Israelis, one of them spoke Hebrew with more of an American accent than I do.
-Not one yarmulke. Anywhere. They could've at least thrown one on the head of the soldier who made a biblical reference and had a token religious guy for crying out loud.
-Other than the intrepid heroine for the episode, the other female IDF soldiers were good for little more than answering phones and serving coffee. Yes, there were more Israeli women in uniform than there have been American women in uniform over the course of the show's season and a hald to date, but come on...
Still, I liked it, and it'll help me parse out what may or may not be accurate when the show has episodes in other countries that surprisingly resemble southern California.
