While reading the news today, I came across a CNN.com interview of Ohio Rep. Kucinich, a Democrat running for president.

He plans to cut the Pentagon's budget by fifteen percent (laudable, maybe.) and establish a nationwide "Department of Peace."

Is it just me, or does "Department of Peace" sound creepier than "Department of Homeland Security?"

It's not just you. It's reminiscent of "MiniPax." However, since Kucinich is only slightly more likely to be our next President than I am, I'm not worried. :-)

I don't think it's actually a bad idea - the point is to provide nonviolent alternatives to conflicts and keep the Department of War in check. It's a good idea, yes, but it does sound creepy. :D
