I've been considering getting a job as a case manager in the Dept. of Corrections, possibly as a parole officer. Mom thinks this may mean that I'll need to carry a gun. Anyone know if that's true?
Parole officers typically sit in an office and people come to them. Those buildings are usually guarded, so desk-types don't carry guns. They might, however, be required to carry if they are going _out_ of the office for some reason. Juvenile officers, for example, do carry guns... but they don't usually wear them _on_ their belt, unless they know they are going into a dangerous situation (but the guns are accessible at all times). This is in the state of MO, but I think it's fairly typical around the country.
