I thought you'd never ask.

First up is Kim Newman's The Hound of the D'Urbervilles. This book follows the evil schemes of Sherlock Holmes villain Professor Moriarty, as written by his henchman Sebastian Moran. I'm a little over two chapters in so far, and I'm enjoying it immensely. I'm a big fan of Holmes, and especially like seeing the Holmes story told from different angles. I bought this one sight unseen after a Facebook recommendation by [livejournal.com profile] doctor_toc.

Next up is this month's issue of Asimov's, which has a story written by my friend Leah Cypess. This is her second story in Asimov's, and her first cover credit. I'm really happy for her, and excited to read the story.

Yesterday, I bought a copy of Shadow Ops: Control Point, by Myke Cole after readin his Big Idea post on . Magic abilities meet the modern day military, as written by a veteran.

The Shadow Ops thing does look good. As a rule, I tend not to get excited about military scifi, but I read the intro, and it kept me interested, so I might pick it up at HPB next time we're out there. I'm not actually reading much of anything right now. Seems like every time I try, something happens to get me distracted, and with my memory the way it is, usually by the time I get back to a story I have to reread the last chapter just so I can try to remember what happened before I left off. I used to be a very avid reader, but at this point I'm doing well just to keep up with the Scalzi blog.

Coincidentally, I'm reading The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz, another Sherlock Holmes pastiche. I think you'd enjoy it.

Oh...you meant for FUN. ;)

I'm reading A Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin because hey, why not. Plus I liked the first one.

Also reading Clara and Mr. Tiffany by Susan Vreeland.

Right now, "CISSP Guide to Security Essentials" by Peter Gregory. Earlier today I was reading the "MCTS Guide to Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Configuration" by Greg Tomsho. There is also a distinct chance I'll be perusing the pages of "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler and "Witchcraft Today: An Encyclopedia of Wiccan and Neopagan Traditions" by James R. Lewis before the week is out. Of course, they are all related to my classes.

Unfortunately, leisure reading has taken a backseat. I tried reading Sam Harris' "The Moral Landscape" for fun right as the semester was starting, but didn't get very far before schoolwork took over.

I miss reading because I want to, as opposed to because I have to.
