When I answer the phone at work, I need to identify us by location.

"Good morning, American Legion, may I help you?"

But once in a very long while, I'm tired, which has had some funny results.

"Good morning, American Legion of Superheroes... Dammit!"

what really gets me is when I answer the phone at home, and need to stop and think before simply saying "hello."

When I was in the Army, we had to answer the phones in the following manner:

"Delta Company, 3rd of the 7th Infantry, PFC Berry speaking. This it not a secure line. How may I help you sir?" Needless to say, Most of us managed to compress this into a burst transmission that lasted less than four seconds.

While working at SuperShuttle as a Dispatcher, I had two lines.. one for the guests and Pheonix Rez, and one for the drivers. I would occassionally use the wrong greeting.
