After years of avoiding it, I finally went to the optometrist today. I learned a few things:

-That loss of peripheral vision on Friday? Probably an optical migraine.

-My retinas look awfully neat, and I could see them thanks to fancy-shmancy technology. (Doc said she wanted a closer look, due to that whole "loss of peripheral vision in one eye" thing.)

-The guy who does the actual eyeglasses side of things opined that I have "a small head." Narrow, maybe. Small? Really?

-Despite avoiding the optometrist for five years, my vision has actually improved in one eye, and hasn't changed at all in the other.

-New glasses arrive in a week. Hooray!

Lucky you, in re improvement of vision in one eye. It'd been years and years since anyone had told me, on a 20/20 scale, what my uncorrected vision was. As of high school, I knew it was 20/50 in the left and 20/70 in the right. It's twenty years later, and now my uncorrected vision is 20/40 in the left and 20/200 in the right.

One of these days I'll break down and go to an optometrist myself.
