Our CO detector went off this evening*. The fire department sent over a bunch of their finest, armed with tricorders.

They think it's our stove, which they say needs to be replaced. Pronto.

That means that I get to call my relatively new landlord and tell him that, on top of the brand new windows he's gotten for everyone in the complex,** and the new front doors the buildings all got,*** he's going to have to pop for a new stove, too.

Great.

*the same thing happened at our old place, approximately a year ago.
**The new windows are nice, new vinyl replacements. The old ones were probably original to the building, 1920s era single-pane, wooden framed things that greeted me with a puff of lead paint chips whenever they were opened.
***The new front doors are boring. The old ones had personality to them. Big old wooden things with big glass windows, and the apartment number painted on in gold. Down at the bottom of the window, you could still make out the remains of the phrase "Pedlars not allowed. All deliveries in rear," also painted in the same gold letters.
