So, here's my Chicago trip in a nutshell.
-I arrive at the airport. Within minutes of landing, I receive three phonecalls:
1. My sister, valling to let me know that my Grandma and Aunt's flight from Ft. Lauderdale arrives in five minutes, two gates down from me. Could I be so kind as to meet them? Of course.
2. The HR woman from Company X called. She wanted to know how my interview went yesterday, and wanted to let me know that everyone there thought it went well, and would I be amenable to coming in on Monday for a second-stage interview? Of course I would! I flip open my smartphone, and make plans for the interview this coming Monday. (also my dad's birthday. I hope his gift arrives soon)
3. the temp agency I signed with called. They have a short-term position that would be perfect for me, could I start Monday morning? Absolutely. Hooray.
Meet grandma and aunt, reunite with (in order) my mom, my sister, my luggage and my dad. Beat feat to the hotel. Remember, it was the ninth of Av, a fast day. Because I traveled west and changed time zones, my fast was an hour longer than everybody else's.
Dad went back to the airport to pick up my other grandma. (Because of weathe rissues, everyone's flight but mine has been bumped to a significant degree. My brother D had it the worst, arriving at the airport well after midnight. He was in Chicago for less than 12 hours.)
Prior to that, we went to my brother's in-laws' house, met up with my brother, sister-in-law, and nephew. Brother is tired, sister-in-law is *very* tired, nephew is tiny and wee and cute and looks just like a baby. Cried like the dickens when I held him the first time, but quieted down when Hyim took him back.
Okay, after the fast we all had dinner. I ate like I had a hollow leg.
Back to the hotel, decided to accompany dad to the airport to pick up Dani, who still hadn't arrived. Had a long talk with dad about many things. It was good, I think.
Friday- Services were held at Hyim's in-laws. Midway through services, we find out that mom and the grandmas were in a car accident. Everyone's fine, but the rental was left undriveable. Ultimately, everything worked out.
Right, so. The bris happened. For details, look it up. Suffice it to say, I was standing well away from the action, holding my grandma's hand. She seemed to be taking it harder than the baby was, IMO. :-)
They named him Benyamin Dov. Dov after Elana's grandfather who passed away about a year ago, and Benyamin (or Benjamin) after my mom's father, who died in 2000. Both grandfathers used Ben as an English name, so it works out really nicely.
Anyway, I'm finally home, and will fall over now. Pictures will be posted later.
