Was supposed to visit hospitalized co-worker today after bro's engagement party, then go to NYC.

Noooo, have to go to NY right after party. argle.

Might have e-mail access there, not sure yet.

There's something very geekily satisfying about taking several distinct components out of a backpack, putting them together, and then being able to communicate internationally with it.

In other words, I've arrived safely in NYC, will be in until tomorrow evening,

I'm writing this on the train home from New York. Quick trip, but fun. Got to hang out with Avi, which was really nice, since it's been ages since I've seen him. We've already begun plans for the HP3 weekend in June, and he's planning on coming up to Boston soon.

Under the "Only in New York" heading:

- A bank with live entertainment consisting of a piano player and a woman singing Christmas songs.

-A Chabad sponsored "Mitzvah Tank" parked next to a Salvation Army bellringer, with the bellringer ringing in time to the very Jewish music being played. (For those not in the know, Chabad is a Jewish outreach organization sponsored by the Lubavitch group of chasidim (Seen dancing the hora with Arnold Shwarzenegger on the steps of California's state capital last week). Mitzvah tanks are mobile homes run by Chabad that are used to dispense holiday appropriate stuff to Jewish passersby, things like Hanukkah candles and such.

I had a really nice time, and it still felt very comfortable there, which is nice to know.

[livejournal.com profile] chaiya, in case I forget to mention it, Amanda and Josh are expecting their first child around the last week of May. Scary. Reuben and Felissa are doing well, and Avi sends his best, and needs to grovel at you later.

[livejournal.com profile] rosefox, I passed the main branch of the NYPL today, and remembered that we met there for the first time. I tried calling you, but I'm afraid I don't have the right number for you in my new phone. :-( Later, though.

Okay, gonna try and find something to do to keep me occupied, now that my book's finished. Hm... Reparo, maybe?
