Over Shabbos, (which I spent sick in bed, bleah) I'd thought of a great post, but decided not to use it, since I'm not that depressed anymore, and hate sounding unneccesarily morose.

But I'm feeling much better now. :-)

Started reading Powers by Brian Michael Bendis, specifically the "Roleplay" graphic novel. Powers deals with two baseline human homicide detectives in a world where superpowers exist.

The book opens with a bunch of college students hanging out in a cafe. One of them looked vaguely like me. SImilar face-shape, a hairstyle I used to have, and glasses resembling mine.

"Oh, cool!" I thought, and read on.

He exits the cafe with his friends, and walks his girlfriend home. At her dorm, he encounters a hero, who calls him out in an "Evil awaits us!" type speech.

He then runs into an alley, removes his glasses, and opens his shirt to reveal a costume underneath.

"Very cool!" I think, turning the page...

To see his corpse.

D'oh!!!

Please note, this doesn't spoiler the rest of the plot, and I loved the book. Pick it up, or borrow it from me. :-)

If you like superheroes, you have to see this movie.

(Here there be spoilers, so please skip to the next paragraph, as I don't know how to selectively block stuff behind cut-tags)

The scene in the train station, where Bruce Willis' character touches people as they pass by him and gets telepathic flashes givs me goosebumps.

I have no real idea why the whole concept of superheroes and comics affect me the way I do. I've always joked and said that I have a "guardian angel complex" that comes out whenever my friends are having problems, maybe it's related to that. I've had connections with a few people, most notably with [livejournal.com profile] chaiya that have sort of cued me in to call, and see what's up.

Haven't had one of those in a while now, though.

I know it's weird, but I miss it, and wish I could do more.
