i recommend not using a software firewall on your main machine at all - it's more trouble than it's worth. buy a small router box that does NAT and port forwarding (such as this Netgear router or this Linksys router), put it between your computer and your cable modem (are you on dialup? if you are, there are other models that work with phone modems), and you're set.
